Umbilical Hernia Surgery

An umbilical hernia occurs near the bellybutton or navel, most often in infants (as a result of weakness in the passage of the umbilical cord through the abdomen wall). Many such hernias close on their own in the first few years of life. Umbilical hernias can also affect adults, often as a result of obesity or pregnancy. Surgery is usually done under general anesthesia.
